Pesquisa aponta que 85% dos pais não sabiam o que era APLV antes do diagnóstico e 1 em cada 2 enfrentou uma jornada longa até a identificação correta

A Alergia à Proteína do Leite de Vaca (APLV) é uma das alergias alimentares mais comuns nos primeiros anos de vida e pode afetar até 5,4% das crianças. Embora cada vez mais frequente, persistente e grave, a APLV ainda é pouco conhecida pela população e pode ser de difícil identificação, mesmo em contextos clínicos, por apresentar uma ampla variedade de sintomas que se confundem com outras condições.
Uma pesquisa nacional realizada em 2020 pela Editora Abril, em parceria com a Danone Nutricia, com 617 pais e mães de crianças diagnosticadas com APLV, revela um retrato preocupante: 85% dos responsáveis não sabiam o que era APLV antes do diagnóstico, e mais da metade precisou consultar três ou mais médicos até chegar ao diagnóstico final.
A APLV ocorre quando o sistema imunológico da criança reage às proteínas presentes no leite de vaca, desencadeando reações ou sintomas que podem desenvolver em diferentes órgãos e sistemas. Entre os sintomas mais relatados pelos pais estão:
· Dermatite (70%)
· Cólica (61%)
· Problemas intestinais (60%)
· Refluxo (56%)
· Diarreia (56%)
· Problemas respiratórios (59%)
· Sangue nas fezes (45%)
“A diversidade de sintomas confunde os pais e até mesmo os profissionais de saúde. Vale destacar que os sintomas podem aparecer em minutos ou até dias após consumir leite ou derivados. Por isso, é importante que os pais estejam atentos e procurem o pediatra ou o especialista – alergologista ou gastroenterologista – da criança se perceberem reações”, orienta Dra. Ana Grubba*, pediatra e diretora médica da Danone.
A médica conta que o diagnóstico da APLV deve ser feito sempre por um profissional da saúde. Ao suspeitar de APLV, será indicado excluir leite e derivados da dieta da criança ou da mãe – no caso de amamentação – e após algumas semanas reintroduzir o leite. Caso os sintomas voltem, é confirmada a APLV.
Mais do que uma simples restrição alimentar, a APLV é uma condição que interfere diretamente na saúde física e emocional da criança. Quando não diagnosticada e tratada adequadamente, pode comprometer o crescimento, a nutrição e até a qualidade de vida da família como um todo. Em casos mais severos, a exposição à proteína do leite pode desencadear reações graves, como a anafilaxia, uma resposta alérgica intensa que pode colocar a vida em risco.
“Quanto mais cedo a APLV for identificada, melhor o prognóstico. Hoje temos recursos nutricionais e acompanhamento adequados para garantir que a criança se desenvolva normalmente, desde que o diagnóstico seja feito e o tratamento seguido com atenção”, completa Dra. Ana.
A pesquisa serve como alerta: é preciso falar mais sobre APLV, dar visibilidade à condição e garantir um ecossistema de informação, acolhimento e segurança para as famílias que convivem com a alergia alimentar.
