O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva lamentou, através de ‘Nota Oficial’, divulgada pela Secretaria de Comunicação Social da Presidência da República, o falecimento do Papa Francisco, ocorrido na manhã desta segunda-feira (21).
O presidente brasileiro expressou, na ‘Nota’, que a humanidade perde “uma voz de respeito e acolhimento ao próximo”, ressaltando que o Papa Francisco propagou valores como amor, tolerância e solidariedade ao longo de sua vida. “Assim como ensinado na oração de São Francisco de Assis, o argentino Jorge Bergoglio buscou incansavelmente levar o amor onde havia ódio”, afirmou.
O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva também ressaltou o compromisso do Papa com as questões ambientais, suas críticas aos sistemas econômicos injustos e sua defesa dos mais vulneráveis. “Sempre esteve ao lado dos pobres, refugiados, jovens, idosos e vítimas de guerras e preconceitos”, escreveu, lembrando dos encontros que ele e a primeira-dama Rosângela (Janja) tiveram com o líder religioso. “O Santo Padre se vai, mas suas mensagens permanecerão gravadas em nossos corações”.

O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) anunciou também luto oficial de sete dias no Brasil em homenagem ao falecimento do Papa Francisco nesta segunda-feira (21), aos 88 anos, no Vaticano. O líder religioso argentino Jorge Mario Bergoglio esteve à frente da Igreja Católica por quase 12 anos e deixou uma marca profunda no cenário mundial religioso e social.
Como o primeiro Papa latino-americano e Jesuíta na história, Francisco foi eleito em 13 de março de 2013, após a renúncia de Bento XVI, durante o Conclave. Durante seu mandato, destacou-se por sua simplicidade, defesa dos pobres e posições firmes em questões de justiça social, meio ambiente e direitos humanos.

Mostrou que esse mesmo modelo é que gera desigualdade entre países e pessoas. E sempre se colocou ao lado daqueles que mais precisam: os pobres, os refugiados, os jovens, os idosos e as vítimas das guerras e de todas as formas de preconceito.
Nas vezes em que eu e Janja fomos abençoados com a oportunidade de encontrar o Papa Francisco e sermos recebidos por ele com muito carinho, pudemos compartilhar nossos ideais de paz, igualdade e justiça. Ideais de que o mundo sempre precisou. E sempre precisará.
Que Deus conforte os que hoje, em todos os lugares do mundo, sofrem a dor dessa enorme perda. Em sua memória e em homenagem à sua obra, decreto luto de sete dias no Brasil.
